Student Teacher / Youth Worker Placements

This strand seeks to encourage greater structured links between both systems and sectors and to promote understanding of the respective sytems within the professions through the exchange of student teachers and youth workers during their teaching practice and their youth work placements.
A grant of 950 Euros per individual is available to educational institutions to cover the cost of placements for three weeks on a cross-border basis of student teachers and youth workers from Northern Ireland and the Border Region of Ireland.

In 2003-04 Stranmillis Training College, Belfast and the Church of Ireland College of Education, Dublin were each funded to provide three week exchange placements for five student teachers.
In 2004-05 , eleven student teachers from Marino College of Education, Froebel College Dublin and Stranmillis College Belfast had three week cross border placements. In addition 15 student youth workers from the University of Ulster are to have cross border placements

Note: the participation of colleges/institutions outside the border region is based on the students involved being from the border counties.
