Check the list of
of Ncompass Thematic Projects which have been approved (pdf file45kb): thematic-projects-granted.pdf
Thematic projects provide teachers/youth leaders and young people with the opportunity to work together on a common project theme which should be integrated into the normal group activities and help promote Peace & Reconciliation. Possible themes for a project could include: Cultural heritage of participants; The environment; Arts & Crafts education; Music; Science & Technology; Literary traditions; Local & regional identities; School and the world of work; Equal opportunities for boys and girls; Media; Education through Sport; Drama; Anti racism; Professional development.
This list is by no means exhaustive and is merely illustrative of the range of thematic areas that could form the basis of a joint project.
Whereas the focus is on the process, projects should aim to produce outcomes such as project diaries, CDs, videos, objects/artefacts, publications, (newsletters, booklets, calendars etc.), artistic performances (drama, music etc). Projects will be encouraged to disseminate their experience to other schools/youth organisations and to the wider community.
Some examples of Projects funded by NcompasS 2003-2006
- Two Special Schools brought school leavers together for visits, drama workshops and joint sports activities
- Two volunteer organisations arranged joint training sessions for youth workers
- Youth service personnel carried out a cross border study visit
Those considering making an application will find useful information in the NcompasS Good Practice Guide available on this website and in hard copy from the co-ordinators.
Funding and Selection
Maximum grants of £1975 and Euro 2750 are available to each partner carrying out a Thematic Project. Partners apply for funding to the NcompasS co-ordinator in their own jurisdiction by a specific deadline. A selection committee, representative of the formal and non-formal sectors North and South, reviews the applications and recommends projects for approval. Priority is given to projects which clearly promote Peace and Reconciliation, have the potential for long term sustainability, plan to disseminate the learning from the project and, where relevant, actively involve young people.
There is an initial payment of 70% of the amount approved for the grant. The balance is payable on receipt of a satisfactory Final Report and supporting financial documentation.
Since funding is limited it may not be possible to fund all applications under a particular deadline.

Reporting and Monitoring
NcompasS co-ordinators provide support to projects during application and activity stages if required and arrange with them to carry out monitoring visits. It is expected that projects would implement best practice as outlined in the NcompasS Guide to Good Practice and other resources, e.g Child Safety Guidelines (pdf file, 1.2Mb).
Final reports are due four weeks after the completion of project activities - download document
* Note it is a requirement that an ESF (European Social Fund) Beneficiary Form is completed for all participants/ beneficiaries - download form
